The beginning
R&M's company story begins in Kirkcaldy on 25 June 1986, founded by Robert Mackie with customer service and product knowledge at its heart.
R&M Distribution has been part of Fife's electrical industry since 1986. What began with Robert and Maureen Mackie grew into an employee owned business built around product knowledge, trusted relationships and doing everything possible to look after the customer.
The company was incorporated on 25 June 1986 and adopted the R&M Distribution name in 1987. The initials stood for Robert and Maureen, Robert Mackie and his wife.
Robert was remembered as a true gentleman and a natural salesman. His approach was simple: know the product, understand the customer and never stop at the first “no”. That product-led, service-focused attitude became the culture of R&M.
From a local independent wholesaler to an employee owned industrial supply business, each chapter has built on the last.
R&M's company story begins in Kirkcaldy on 25 June 1986, founded by Robert Mackie with customer service and product knowledge at its heart.
Around a decade after formation, R&M joined AWEBB, expanding manufacturer access and buying strength while remaining proudly independent.
Neil Duff helped steer R&M through a challenging economic period, strengthening its commercial and industrial focus. He became a director in 2004.
On Robert's retirement, the business passed to its people through an Employee Ownership Trust. Brian Hunter guided R&M through this new chapter.
Forty years on, Lee Logan is focused on strengthening R&M's industrial position and growing its hazardous area, oil and gas, process and project supply capability.
Several members of the R&M team have been with the business for more than 30 years. That continuity gives customers something difficult to replicate: deep product knowledge, long-standing supplier relationships and people who remember what came before the latest part number.
R&M supports electrical contractors, maintenance teams, engineers and major industrial sites across oil and gas, energy, water, food and drink, manufacturing and process industries.
Our experience includes supplying products into organisations, sites and associated supply chains across these sectors. Brand names are shown for context and do not imply endorsement.
R&M's future is focused on control and automation, cable management, industrial lighting, drives, maintenance supply and a growing hazardous area offer for Scotland's industrial market.
